Welcome to Barnard! My name is Emily Merchant, I was born and raised here in San Diego and this is my 5th year teaching, and I am excited to see my friends in the 1st grade as well as meet my new incoming kinders. I have also taught violin for many years in different parts of San Diego including Dana Middle School here in Point Loma. I am very excited about being a part of the Mandarin Chinese Magnet Program here at Barnard Elementary. I know the value of early bilingual education because I was fortunate as a student to attend Longfellow Elementary here in San Diego City Schools which is a Spanish Language Magnet Program. Being bilingual has helped me in many areas of my life from translating to having an appreciation for all different cultures. Please look for papers to be sent home from both my classroom and the office. I am looking forward to meeting all of you, thank you for everything you do for your children everyday!
